New Work in
Modernist Studies 15
Online
9th January 2026, 10.30am-5pm UK time
The fifteenth conference on New Work in Modernist Studies (NWiMS) will be hosted online, on Friday 9th January 2026. NWiMS is the annual postgraduate conference of the British Association for Modernist Studies, aimed at postgraduates and early career researchers and provides an opportunity for these scholars to share work in a supportive and inclusive environment, as well as to meet researchers from other institutions working on related topics. We welcome papers on any aspect of modernist culture, broadly conceived, and from any disciplinary perspective.
Proposals
Proposals are invited from current postgraduates and ECRs, for short (10 minutes maximum) research position papers, on any aspect of modernist culture, broadly conceived. Your proposal should be no more than 250 words. Please also include a short biography of no more than 50 words. The conference is open to international delegates.
Proposals for and questions about the event should be sent to nwims@bams.ac.uk with NWiMS in the subject line.
Deadline for proposals: 5pm UK time, Friday 19th December 2025.
Acceptance decisions will be communicated within seven days.
Applicants and delegates are encouraged to let us know about any access needs they might have, and if we are able to make adjustments to the application or presentation process, we will endeavour to do so.
BAMS is dedicated to fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion. As in previous years, this conference will take the form of an interdisciplinary programme reflecting the full diversity of current graduate work in modernist studies; it encourages contributions both from those already involved in the existing networks and from students new to modernist studies who are eager to share their work. We particularly encourage proposals from students from global majority ethnic backgrounds, who we recognise are underrepresented in the field.
Registration
There is no fee for the conference, but you must be a member of BAMS to attend. Full registration details will be published when the programme is announced.
